About Deskstance

A small, independent site about sit-stand desks, written by one person who bought one, got curious about why most buying advice in this category is so bad, and started checking the specs himself.

Why this site exists

Standing-desk buying advice has a specific failure mode. Almost every roundup ranks on price and appearance — the two things you can already judge from a product photograph — and skips the three specifications that actually decide whether a desk works for you: how low it goes, how much it is rated to lift, and what the warranty covers when the control box fails in year six.

Those are all published. They are on the manufacturers' own pages, in the manuals and in the warranty documents. Nobody reads them for you, so that is what Deskstance does: read the spec sheets, record the figures, link every one back to where it came from, and rank on the numbers that matter rather than the ones that photograph well.

Who writes it

Mike M. — Owner, Iron Mako Media. Mike M. is the hands-on owner behind Iron Mako Media, the independent publisher of Deskstance. He bought his own UPLIFT V2 and has worked at it daily ever since. Everything else here is chosen from manufacturer specs, owner's manuals and published research — and labeled as exactly that.

That is the whole masthead, and it is deliberately not dressed up. There is no team of ergonomics experts here, no clinical advisor, and no testing lab. Claiming otherwise would be the easiest thing on this site to fake and the least defensible.

What we have actually tested

One product: the UPLIFT V2, bought with our own money and used daily. Every other product on the site is labeled "researched, not personally tested" wherever it appears — in the picks table, on the product card, and in every comparison.

We also do not publish measurements we did not take, even for the desk we own. No decibel readings, no deflection figures, no invented long-term wear log. The full method, including the scoring rubric.

What the site covers

50 pages across 8 sections: full sit-stand desks, desktop converters, under-desk walking pads, anti-fatigue mats, chairs and perch stools, under-desk storage and accessories, plus guides on fit, the health evidence and the two routes most buyers overpay by missing.

The through-line is people who work with back pain, because that is the reader who most needs the specs checked properly and is most often sold a desk on a promise the evidence does not support. We publish the weak evidence alongside the encouraging evidence, which is unusual for a site that earns commission on desks.

How it is funded

Affiliate commission. If you buy through a link here, Deskstance earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. Nobody pays for placement, no brand reviews a page before it publishes, and commission rates are not consulted when a ranking is set. The full affiliate disclosure and the editorial policy both set out what that means in practice.

The publisher

Deskstance is operated by Iron Mako Media, an independent publisher. There is no storefront, no showroom and no phone line — this is a website, and the honest way to reach it is email.

Questions, corrections and product suggestions all go to the same place: the contact page, or contact@deskstance.com directly. Corrections get fixed on the page where the error was.
