Sourcing

Every product specification carries a link to the maker's own page. Height ranges, weight capacities, warranty terms, belt dimensions and lift ranges all come from the manufacturer's published material — never from a retailer listing, never from another review site, and never from memory. This is enforced in code: the function that defines a product throws a build error if a specification has no source URL.

Health claims come from named institutions and published research. The two we lean on most are UT Southwestern Medical Center and a 2018 Cochrane systematic review, and we cite the Cochrane finding that the evidence is low quality as prominently as the encouraging findings.

Tax and benefits mechanics come from IRS material. Publications 502 and 969, cited on the page that uses them.

Where a figure is not published, we say so. LifeSpan does not publish a belt dimension for the TR1000; Vari does not publish full dimensions for its File Cabinet. Both absences are stated on the page and counted against the product, because estimating them would be indistinguishable from inventing them.

Independence

Deskstance earns affiliate commission on purchases made through its links. The disclosure is here and appears above the first affiliate link on every commercial page, not only in the footer.

What that funding does not buy:

• No brand pays for placement in a ranking, or for a ranking position.
• No brand reviews, approves or previews a page before it publishes.
• Commission rates are not consulted when picks or ordering are decided.
• We recommend against purchases regularly — cheaper picks over premium ones, converters over desks, and buying nothing until you have measured.

What we decline

• Sponsored posts and paid articles. Including "we'll write it" offers.
• Paid link insertions into existing pages. This is the most common approach we receive and the answer is always no.
• Guest posts. One person writes this site, and the byline stays accurate.
• Products supplied on condition of coverage, a positive review, or approval rights.
• Affiliate programs whose products we would not otherwise rank.

Claims we will not make

• Invented reviews, testimonials, quotes or ratings. Not one appears on this site.
• Star ratings or aggregate ratings we did not collect — and no Review or AggregateRating structured data, which would assert them to search engines.
• Prices written into article text. Prices come live from the retailer or not at all.
• Estimated specifications presented as published ones.
• Medical advice. Nobody here holds a clinical credential, and the health pages state that on the page.
• Discount percentages we could not verify on the maker's own page — which is why that page has blanks in it.

Testing and labeling

Two labels, applied to every product on every page: owner-tested (bought with our own money and used daily) and researched, not personally tested. Exactly one product carries the first. We do not publish measurements we did not take, even for the product we own. The rubric and the weights.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it on the page where it appeared and note what changed. We do not quietly edit and move on, and we do not bury corrections on a separate page. Specifications change, products get discontinued, and warranty terms are revised — tell us and we will fix it.

Every page carries a visible last-updated date. When a product's specification changes materially, that date changes with it.

AI and how these pages are made

Research, drafting and the site build all use AI tooling, under human direction and review. That is worth stating plainly rather than implying a newsroom. What it does not change is the sourcing rule: no figure appears on this site because a model recalled it. Every specification is fetched from the manufacturer's page and carries a link you can check, and the build fails if that link is missing.
