Capacity ratings run from 200 lb to 440 lb across the desks we rank. Almost nobody needs the top of that — but the reason to have headroom is not the one most people assume.

The short answer
Most desk setups weigh 60 to 130 lb. Every desk we rank is rated for at least 200 lb, so capacity is almost never a hard limit. It matters as headroom: a frame running near its rating moves less smoothly and wears faster. Aim to load a frame to no more than about half its rated capacity.
Nobody does this and it takes two minutes.

Against a 355 lb rating, that is comfortable. Against a 200 lb rating — which is what Vari publishes — a loaded version of that setup is already past half the rating before anyone leans on it.
The rule
Read the wording carefully, too. A lifting capacity is usually what the frame lifts in addition to its top. A maximum distributed load may include more: Secretlab publishes 265 lb for the MAGNUS Pro and separately states the 1.5m desk weighs 125 lb.

Best for heavy loads and tall users
The E7 with the two numbers a heavy setup actually needs: 440 lb of capacity and a 50.6" ceiling. The C-frame trades a little rigidity for legroom, which is the real reason to choose it.

Best current-generation buy
The V2's replacement, and the one that will actually be in stock. UPLIFT puts the range at 22.6" to 48.7" — a lower floor than the V2, which matters more than the ceiling for most people — on the same 355 lb rating and 15-year warranty.

Questions
Typically the desk refuses to lift, stalls partway, or triggers overload protection rather than dropping anything. The bigger risk is years of running near the limit wearing the drive out early.
Do not. A rating is a static, distributed figure; a person on the edge is a concentrated dynamic load. If you need a seat, that is what a perch stool is for.
